Tonight is Luau night. Some think its a hokey, touristy thing to do. If so, then call me a tourist. Its a chance to really get a sense of some traditional Hawaiian culture.

The Old Lahaina Luau gets reviews of being the "most authentic" one on Maui and we've heard the same from others and agree. Its a bit more expensive than some of the other Luau's ($78) but less "Las Vegas" style.

The Old Lahaina Luau seems truly authentic, beginning with the entire staff being obviously Hawaiian (or at least looking like it). No white boys need apply here.

The stage is set up kind of "in the round" as opposed to the theater style seating, allowing every seat to be pretty decent. By the way, if you decide to go, make your reservations early. We barely got in 3 days in advance by getting on a cancellation list. The seating is unique in that it is assigned seating, too, as opposed to general admission like all the other Luaus.

The food is pretty much the same as other Luau's, but the drinks are better, the staff friendlier, the show more authentic. It's definitely worth it.

Aloha!
